Hand therapy is a specialized area of therapy providing upper extremity care specific to the patient with an upper extremity injury. The hand therapist works as a partner with the hand surgeon or physician to achieve excellent results. Hand therapists are skilled at dynamic, static, and functional splinting. In addition, they are excellent for the rehabilitation of conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, overuse injuries, burns, fractures, crush injuries, amputations, nerve injuries, tendon repairs, elbow reconstruction, and arthritis.
